The Republic of Yemen participated today in an international seminar organized by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) in Paris, France, entitled: "Promoting Economic Resilience in Yemen and Libya: Lessons Learned from OECD Support and Italian Initiatives," with a delegation headed by the Yemeni Ambassador to Paris, Dr. Riad Yassin. The seminar, with the participation of representatives from a number of countries, international organizations, and donors, discussed mechanisms to support the Yemeni and Libyan economies and enhance their ability to withstand and recover in light of current economic challenges. During his participation, Ambassador Riad Yassin reviewed the difficult economic conditions Yemen is going through, particularly in the electricity and public services sectors, the decline in revenues, and the cessation of oil exports. He stressed that these challenges require urgent and effective international intervention to support vital sectors and ensure the continuation of the economic recovery path. The Ambassador pointed out that the OECD and the European Union have provided qualitative support to Yemen in various fields, especially in light of the crises the region is experiencing, explaining that this support has contributed to enhancing economic resilience, implementing infrastructure projects, and emergency programs that have positively impacted public services. Ambassador Yassin revealed the government's readiness to organize an international conference entitled "Sustainable Energy for Yemen's Recovery," scheduled to be held on November 26 and 27, to discuss plans and strategies aimed at promoting sustainable energy and attracting investments to this vital sector, which is directly linked to economic recovery efforts. He stressed the importance of supporting and empowering the private sector as a major engine of economic growth, pointing out that the support of the OECD and the European Union for the private sector is an important step for its contribution to creating job opportunities and driving development. For his part, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation for the Studies and Economic Forecasts Sector, Dr. Muhammad Al-Hawari, in an intervention via video conference, stressed the importance of continuing the support of the European Union and the OECD to enhance the ability of the Yemeni economy to face challenges, especially in light of the fragility of the economic and humanitarian situations. The head of the Central Statistical Organization, Dr. Safaa Moati, also reviewed, via video conference, the most prominent difficulties facing statistical work in Yemen, especially with regard to collecting accurate data, praising the support provided by the European Union and the OECD in developing statistical capabilities and building a modern information system that serves planning and decision-making processes.
