((Arab Sea)) Translations: A report by the medical website "Medical News Today" highlighted the multiple benefits of eating cumin. Cumin is a type of spice, sold either as whole dried seeds or as a ground powder. In addition to its culinary uses, many people use cumin for its multiple medicinal benefits by drinking it after boiling it, or adding it to food. Weight loss Cumin may be beneficial for people trying to control their body weight. In a 2015 study of overweight adults, the effects of cumin consumption on weight loss were compared to those of a weight loss drug and a placebo. After 8 weeks, the researchers found that both the cumin and drug groups lost significant amounts of weight. People in the cumin group also recorded a decrease in insulin levels. In another study conducted in 2014, it was found that overweight and obese women who consumed 3 grams of cumin powder mixed with yogurt daily for 3 months recorded a significant decrease in body weight, waist circumference, and fat percentage. Cholesterol Diabetes A study was conducted in 2017 on adults with type 2 diabetes, in which the effect of cumin essential oil on blood sugar levels was evaluated. Study participants received either 100 milligrams of cumin oil daily, 50 milligrams, or a placebo. After 8 weeks, sugar and insulin levels decreased significantly in the cumin oil groups, and the two groups also experienced an improvement in markers of insulin resistance and inflammation. Irritable Bowel Syndrome A pilot study conducted in 2013 showed the effect of taking drops of cumin essential oil on the symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome. After 4 weeks, study participants noticed an improvement in several symptoms such as abdominal pain and bloating. By the end of the study, people who had constipation became more regular in their bowel movements, while those who had diarrhea had fewer bowel movements. Stress Cumin may help the body deal with stress. One experiment on mice studied the effect of cumin extract on stress indicators. When the mice received the extract before being exposed to a stressful situation, their bodies reacted less stressfully compared to mice that did not receive cumin. It is believed that cumin alleviates the effects of stress by acting as an antioxidant, and researchers found that cumin was more effective as an antioxidant than vitamin C in the mice studied. Strengthening memory A scientific study gave a group of mice amounts of cumin, and found that the animals that consumed it were faster and better at remembering compared to those that did not receive it.
