Jordan: Ammonia gas leak injures 16 students at a school in Amman

Arab Sea - Follow-ups: Sixteen students (male and female) suffered from shortness of breath today, Sunday, after inhaling ammonia gas inside a private school in the Jordanian capital, Amman. The Jordanian authorities received a report about an ammonia gas leak inside a private school in the capital, Amman, and that there were injuries among the students. Immediately, rescue teams and ambulances moved to the scene, and the situation was brought under control. The initial examination revealed that the ammonia gas leak caused injuries to 16 students, in addition to the injury of two teachers, who were transferred to the hospital to receive the necessary treatment. The Jordanian Minister of Education, Dr. Azmi Mahafza, was keen to check on the health of the injured students and teachers who suffered from shortness of breath as a result of the chemical substance leak, "ammonia gas," in the science laboratory of the school in question. The ministry confirmed in a press statement today, Sunday, that all the injured are in stable health and in good health, noting that they have left the hospital with the exception of some female students, one of whom is suffering from health problems. The incident has received widespread interaction on social media platforms, amid demands from many to tighten precautionary measures inside schools, so that such incidents do not happen again.
