Arab Sea Newspaper - Follow-ups:

The death toll from floods and landslides that swept through the Indonesian island of Sumatra has risen to 303, while at least 279 people remain missing, amid efforts to evacuate about 80,000 people from the affected areas. The head of the National Relief Agency, Suharyanto, told reporters that rescue forces are facing difficulty in opening a road blocked by a landslide, stressing that hundreds are still trapped and in need of urgent supplies, and that military reinforcements will be deployed tomorrow, Sunday, to support relief operations. This comes a week after heavy rains caused by passing cyclones swept through large areas of Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand, accompanied by a rare tropical storm in the Strait of Malacca, leading to widespread floods and landslides.
