The General Authority of Civil Aviation and Meteorology in Aden confirmed that large parts of Yemen have begun to be affected by volcanic ash clouds resulting from the eruption of the Erta Ale volcano in Ethiopia, after satellite images monitored the movement of gray clouds towards the country under the influence of active winds. The Air Forecast and Early Warning Center explained that the volcanic ash that reached Yemen consists of fine particles of rocks and volcanic glass, which are particles capable of traveling long distances and may pose health risks to the population even in areas far from the emission site. The Authority issued a package of preventive guidelines to deal with the situation, most notably: Avoid going out unless necessary and stay indoors. Use protective masks and glasses when you have to move around. Wash your face and eyes immediately after exposure to dust. Secure drinking water tanks by closing them tightly. Clean affected surfaces gently using low-pressure water. Check agricultural water pumping and filtration systems to avoid any potential contamination. Adhere to official updates issued by the Meteorology Sector. The Authority confirmed that it is monitoring the development of cloud movement around the clock, and will publish any updates as soon as they are available, calling on citizens and the media to avoid unreliable information and rely only on official sources. Respiratory specialists warned that inhaling volcanic particles may lead to respiratory disorders, especially in asthma patients and the elderly.
