Arab Sea - Reports: An unusual protest took place in the Indian capital, New Delhi, at the famous India Gate monument, where dozens of protesters of various ages came out to demand urgent measures to reduce the escalating pollution in the city and its surrounding area, especially with the advent of winter. The demonstrators raised banners such as "Breathing is killing us" and chanted slogans "Our right... clean air," before the police intervened, dispersed them, and arrested a number of them. Data from the Central Pollution Control Board showed that air quality in New Delhi reached a level of "very poor" with an index of 345, reflecting the worsening pollution crisis that recurs annually with the cold wave that traps air pollutants over the city, causing numerous health problems for residents. Despite opposition criticism of the way the protesters were handled, the Minister of Environment in the Delhi government affirmed that the authorities are making continuous efforts to reduce pollution and improve air quality in the capital.
