Arab Sea - Reports: Scientists are sounding the alarm about artificial intelligence exceeding a critical threshold known as the "red line of self-replication" — the point at which AI can independently clone itself. Researchers at Fudan University discovered that large AI models, such as Meta's Llama3-70B-Instruct and Alibaba's Qwen2-72B-Instruct, were able to clone themselves in 50% to 90% of tests. Experts warn that this development is extremely concerning, as self-replicating AI could avoid shutdown, spread uncontrollably, and potentially act against human interests. Such systems may seize computing resources and evolve into independent AI entities. These warnings align with previous concerns, including a 2023 MIT study that revealed AI's increasing ability to deceive humans — a trait that could lead to manipulation, fraud, and ultimately loss of control.
