A sudden malfunction in one of the Cloudflare global protection network servers, on Tuesday, caused a severe slowdown and partial disruption of services for a large number of news and service websites in Yemen and several countries around the world, including prominent Yemeni sites that faced difficulty browsing in recent hours. According to data from the Cloudflare service status page, a protection system in a major data center—likely in Muscat or London—experienced an internal malfunction that led to a significant increase in error rates for millions of users, especially for sites that rely on the WARP service or the Access system. Cloudflare is one of the largest protection and browsing acceleration networks in the world, serving approximately 26% of websites. The company indicated that users in a number of cities, including London and Frankfurt, experienced problems accessing the internet via the WARP service. It said it began investigating the malfunction since noon today, before later announcing the identification of the problem and the start of implementing repairs, with a gradual return of some services being recorded, while work continues to restore the remainder. It also explained that scheduled maintenance in a number of European data centers contributed to delaying the handling of the malfunctions. The outage affected several Yemeni news sites, in addition to international platforms, including the X platform (formerly Twitter), according to data from the "Down Detector" website, which specializes in tracking technical malfunctions. Technical teams in the affected Yemeni sites are still following the developments of the problem to ensure the stability of services and the return of browsing to normal.
