Yemen: Smuggling of more than 200 artifacts raises concerns about protecting national heritage

Yemeni antiquities expert Abdullah Mohsen warned against the smuggling of more than 200 artifacts during the months of October and November 2025, describing these operations as a major threat to the national heritage. Mohsen explained that the smuggling was carried out with the support and facilitation of some influential local figures and entities, which complicates efforts to protect historical sites and properties. He pointed out the government's limited ability to address this phenomenon, saying: "The official authorities are aware, but the protector is unable to protect himself."
