Arab Gulf - Follow-ups: In a powerful post published on her official Instagram account, the famous actress Angelina Jolie strongly criticized the international community for the ongoing war in the Gaza Strip. Jolie posted a series of statements issued by official institutions regarding the famine in Gaza and children at risk of death, commenting, "These kinds of statements and dire warnings are supposed to carry weight and lead to action." She added, "It is heartbreaking to see how many innocent lives - and the principles we hold dear and believe in so much - are being mocked in this way." She affirmed that the current situation is the result of decades of selectivity in defending human rights, and not a sudden loss of moral compass, adding, "What is happening is the result of considering some lives valuable, and others disposable. It is an extension of the shameful way in which the Security Council countries selectively criticize and support." Jolie stressed that the tragedies we are witnessing "do not happen by accident, but are deliberate." She pointed out that the number of people forcibly displaced due to conflicts has doubled in the past decade, noting the suffering of Sudanese, Syrians, Afghans, Ukrainians, and Palestinians, among other peoples, as stark evidence of this international failure. She added, "Whether due to hunger, or attacks on hospitals and schools, new and shocking standards are being established, making civilians in the future more vulnerable than they are today." Jolie concluded her post with a warning message to the international community: "Those who have the power to protect international humanitarian law, but do nothing, bear part of the responsibility. The things we tolerate are what define who we are."
