Arab Sea - Follow-ups: The spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General, Stéphane Dujarric, announced that at least 390 humanitarian workers have lost their lives while performing their duties around the world in 2024, including 181 who were killed in the Gaza Strip. Dujarric said, in his daily press conference at the organization's headquarters in New York on Tuesday, that the world is commemorating World Humanitarian Day today amid the increasing risks facing workers in this field, noting that Gaza was the deadliest arena for them in light of the ongoing war for more than 22 months. He affirmed that aid workers there "bravely risk their lives to save others, while struggling to secure their own needs and the needs of their families," calling on leaders to show serious political will to end the conflict and alleviate the suffering of civilians. Israel, with American support, has continued its war on Gaza since October 7, 2023, resulting in more than 62,000 deaths and 156,000 injuries, mostly women and children, in addition to thousands of missing persons and hundreds of thousands of displaced people, amid a worsening humanitarian crisis and famine that has claimed the lives of hundreds.
