Arab Gulf - Agencies: The Financial Times reported on Tuesday that France, Germany, and Britain have informed the United Nations of their readiness to reimpose sanctions on Iran if Tehran does not return to negotiations with the international community regarding its nuclear program. The report added, quoting a letter seen by the newspaper, that the foreign ministers of the so-called "European Troika" wrote to the United Nations on Tuesday to indicate the possibility of "reimposing sanctions" unless Iran takes action. The ministers said in the letter, "We have made it clear that if Iran is not ready to reach a diplomatic solution before the end of August 2025, or if it does not seize the opportunity for an extension, the group of three European countries is ready to activate the mechanism for reimposing sanctions." The warning from the "European Troika" comes after talks with Iran in Istanbul last month, the first direct meeting since the Israeli and American strikes on Iranian nuclear sites. The Financial Times revealed late last month that the Europeans are ready to grant Iran a "limited extension" to the deadline before activating the "trigger mechanism" if Tehran accepts specific conditions related to uranium enrichment and the transparency of nuclear facilities. In this context, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharib Abadi said that his country has clarified its "principled" positions, noting the continuation of consultations with the Europeans, without offering concrete concessions. While the Director-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Rafael Grossi, called on Iran to "full transparency," he expressed optimism about the return of international inspectors to Iranian nuclear sites later this year, stressing "the need to restore normal relations with Iran" in accordance with the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons.
