Arab Sea - Follow-ups: A strong earthquake measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale struck Balıkesir province in northwestern Turkey on Sunday evening. Residents felt the quake as far away as Istanbul, which is about 200 kilometers away, according to the Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD). The authority stated that the epicenter of the earthquake was in the Sındırgı district at 19:53. Local media reported that at least one building collapsed, but there have been no reports of casualties so far. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya confirmed that emergency teams were mobilized immediately after the earthquake and are continuously monitoring the situation. Turkey is an active seismic zone and experiences frequent tremors, the most severe of which occurred in February 2023, when a 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck the south of the country, leaving more than 53,000 people dead.
