U.S. Central Command CENTCOM announced the establishment of a new task force to operate the first squadron of one-way attack drones, based in the Middle East, without disclosing the host country or the nature of the tasks assigned to it. The Command said in a statement that the new task force, named Scorpion Strike (TFSS), was established four months after Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth directed the acceleration of the development, acquisition, and deployment of low-cost drone technology. The statement explained that the task force aims to "provide effective and affordable combat capabilities to military operations executors," noting that it has already formed a squadron of low-cost attack drones within the LUCAS Unmanned Combat Strike system, and is currently based in the Middle East. The Command's announcement included photos and videos documenting a part of the new squadron, without providing any additional details about its operational tasks or scope of use.
