Today, Sunday, the navy of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps seized a foreign ship flying the flag of the Kingdom of Eswatini, which was smuggling about 350,000 liters of gas oil, according to the semi-official Tasnim news agency. One of the navy commanders explained that the ship was seized while trying to smuggle fuel in Iranian territorial waters, and it was taken to the coasts of the city of Bushehr in the south of the country by a judicial order, in preparation for unloading its cargo and starting investigations. The commander added that the ship's crew consists of 13 sailors holding Indian nationalities and another from a neighboring country, without specifying the name of the second country. This operation comes within the framework of the Iranian authorities' efforts to combat fuel smuggling, in light of the continued phenomenon of illegal trafficking in gasoline and gas oil, taking advantage of the large price difference between Iran and neighboring countries, especially since Iran sells fuel at subsidized prices that are among the lowest in the world, due to the weakness of the local currency and government support.
