Nigerian army foils attack by 300 ISIS fighters on Chibok.
Arab Sea Newspaper - Follow-ups:
On Saturday dawn, Nigerian forces managed to thwart a large-scale attack launched by more than 300 elements of the "ISIS in West Africa" organization on the town of Chibok in Borno State, northeastern Nigeria, in one of the most violent attacks targeting the region recently. Security and local sources stated that violent clashes lasted for about two hours before fighters and aircraft belonging to the Air Force intervened and carried out precise strikes that resulted in the "neutralization" of dozens of attackers and forced the rest to flee towards the forest area known as the "Timbuktu Triangle." The sources confirmed that there were no casualties among the Nigerian forces. The operation comes amid escalating attacks carried out by groups linked to the "ISIS" and "Al-Qaeda" organizations in the Lake Chad Basin, which prompted the Nigerian authorities to declare a "national state of emergency" and strengthen the capabilities of the army and security. Chibok has a special sensitivity after the kidnapping of about 300 schoolgirls in 2014, which highlighted the danger of terrorist groups in the region.
