The rate of immigration to the United Kingdom recorded a significant decrease during the year ending in June 2025, reaching 204,000 people, the lowest annual level since 2021, compared to 649,000 during the same period of the previous year, a decrease of 69%. Data from the British Office for National Statistics indicated that net migration, which is the difference between long-term arrivals and departures, continued its downward trend over the past two years after peaking at 944,000 people in the year ending in March 2023. The office pointed out that the recent decline was a result of a decrease in the number of arrivals from outside the European Union for work or study, along with an increase in those leaving the country, with the number of arrivals reaching 898,000 people during the year ending in June 2025, compared to 693,000 who left the United Kingdom during the same period.
