Australia designates the Revolutionary Guard as a terrorist organization and expels Iran's ambassador.
Arabian Sea Newspaper - Agencies:
Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong announced on Thursday that Australia has officially decided to list the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization, in an unprecedented move that follows an intelligence assessment confirming Tehran's involvement in planning anti-Semitic attacks inside the country, according to Reuters. Wong explained that the decision is based on reliable security information indicating the IRGC's involvement in orchestrating two terrorist attacks targeting the Jewish community in the cities of Sydney and Melbourne through deliberate arson, in an escalation described by the government as "dangerous and unacceptable." In a related context, Australia expelled the Iranian ambassador from Canberra on Tuesday, giving him seven days to leave the country, in the first diplomatic expulsion of this kind since World War II, reflecting the escalating level of tension between the two countries.
