The European Union announced that an Italian frigate, operating within the international navigation protection fleet in the region, successfully secured the passage of a commercial ship in the Red Sea west of Yemen, in the third operation of its kind this month. The European naval mission EUNAVFOR ASPIDES said in a tweet on the "X" platform on Tuesday that the Italian frigate MARCEGLIA provided close protection to the ship, ensuring the safe arrival of the crew and goods to their destination. This is the third operation for the Italian frigate MARCEGLIA in November, after it carried out two similar operations during which it secured the passage of two groups of commercial ships in the Red Sea. The European naval force affirmed that its defensive mission aims to contribute to regional stability and prosperity, and to protect sailors and global goods, noting that its war assets have supported more than 1,320 commercial ships in the southern part of the Red Sea since late 2023, amid ongoing threats from the Houthi group.
