The early hours of Tuesday witnessed a dangerous escalation between Russia and Ukraine, with both sides exchanging attacks targeting vital energy facilities, resulting in civilian casualties and damage to a number of homes. The Ukrainian Ministry of Energy announced a "massive attack" by Russian forces on the country's energy facilities, noting that a technical assessment of the damage would begin as soon as the security situation improved. This coincided with loud explosions in the capital, Kyiv, along with warnings of widespread missile attacks throughout the country. The Ukrainian Air Force stated that cruise missiles and Iranian-made "Shahed" drones, in addition to ballistic and "Kinzhal" hypersonic missiles, were part of the attack, while authorities announced the activation of air defenses to counter these threats and called on residents to remain in shelters. In contrast, the governor of Russia's Krasnodar region said that Ukraine launched an attack "the largest of its kind" on the region overnight, injuring six people and damaging at least 20 homes in five different municipalities. This escalation comes amid the ongoing war between the two sides, with increasing warnings of targeting civilian infrastructure and intensifying mutual strikes.
