The Russian Ministry of Defense announced on Monday that its air defense systems intercepted and destroyed 93 Ukrainian drones during a large-scale overnight attack targeting several regions inside Russian territory. The ministry said in an official statement that Russian defenses shot down 45 drones over the Belgorod region near the Ukrainian border, noting that the rest of the drones were shot down over the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov, in addition to other unnamed areas. This attack comes after a series of escalations between the two sides, as Ukraine has recently intensified its use of drones in its military operations against targets inside Russian territory, in an attempt to target military sites and strategic installations. The Ukrainian authorities have not officially claimed responsibility for this attack so far, while there were no immediate reports of material damage or casualties as a result of the attack, according to the Russian statement. This is one of the largest drone attacks announced by Moscow since the beginning of the war, and reflects, according to observers, the increasing reliance on drones in the war tactics between Russia and Ukraine.
