On Monday morning, three suicide bombers carried out a bloody attack on a paramilitary forces headquarters in the city of Peshawar, northwest Pakistan, killing three people and wounding at least five others, according to authorities. Police reported that the militants opened fire as they stormed the "Frontier Police" headquarters in a crowded area of Peshawar, before blowing themselves up inside the complex, while security forces still suspect the presence of armed elements holed up inside. Security forces, including the army and police, confirmed the encirclement of the site and the imposition of a tight security cordon, amid a state of continued alert. Mohammad Asim, a spokesman for Lady Reading Hospital, reported that the five injured were transferred to the hospital, including two members of the paramilitary forces. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far, but Peshawar and its surroundings have witnessed an escalation in the pace of armed operations in recent weeks, following border clashes between Pakistan and Afghanistan. Islamabad accuses the Afghan Taliban of harboring extremist groups that launch attacks inside Pakistani territory, while Kabul denies these allegations.
