The Labour Friends of Yemen group has announced the appointment of MP Alex Ballinger as the new chair of the group, succeeding Gill Furniss. Hamdan Dammaj, a member of the group's executive committee, explained that Ballinger's selection comes as part of a modernization of the leadership structure aimed at strengthening the group's presence and intensifying its activity in the coming period, especially in light of developments related to the Yemeni situation and the Red Sea crisis. Ballinger holds the seat of Halesowen in the West Midlands, and previously served in the Royal Marines between 2005 and 2013, before moving to work in the UK Department for International Development (DFID) on relief missions in the Middle East.
