Colombian President Gustavo Petro announced the suspension of intelligence sharing with the United States, considering the decision a response to the American military attacks in the Caribbean region that resulted in the death of a Colombian fisherman. Petro clarified that the suspension includes cooperation in military intelligence and communication channels with American security agencies, emphasizing that this measure will continue "as long as the missile attacks on boats in the Caribbean region continue." He added that combating drug trafficking must be done with full respect for human rights and the dignity of the people of the region. The Colombian president accused the United States of carrying out an "extrajudicial assassination" in the fisherman's death incident, considering it a blatant violation of national sovereignty and humanitarian principles. Relations between Colombia and the United States have been increasingly strained in recent months, as Washington has accused Petro of not taking decisive action against drug trafficking networks and has taken several punitive measures against him.
