Public tension between Netanyahu and his Defense Minister over the appointment of the new Military Advocate General.

The Israeli newspaper "Maariv" reported on political tension between Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his Defense Minister Yisrael Katz, against the backdrop of the appointment of the new military advocate general. The newspaper explained that Minister Katz signed the appointment of lawyer Itai Ofer to the position, postponing the publication of the announcement for personal reasons related to the return of Hadar Goldin's body, while the Prime Minister was not informed in advance of the appointment, which aroused his displeasure against the backdrop of critical briefings from his associates, without opposing the appointment itself. Sources stated that the tension goes beyond the issue of the appointment, and relates to a political debate about highlighting military achievements, especially with the approach of the Likud party's primary elections, where Katz seeks to highlight his role in contrast to reducing the Prime Minister's role. The former military advocate general, Yifat Tomer Yerushalmi, recently resigned after a video was leaked showing Israeli soldiers mistreating a Palestinian detainee, and she suffered health and security problems during the recent period, including an alleged suicide attempt after taking an overdose of medication, after which she was transferred to the hospital.
