Arab Sea - Follow-ups: The Iranian judiciary announced on Wednesday the execution by hanging this morning of Babak Shahbazi, who was convicted of spying for Israeli intelligence. The Mizan Online website reported that the execution was carried out after the completion of judicial procedures and the confirmation of the sentence by the Supreme Court. This is the latest step in a series of judicial procedures that lasted for a period, as the accused was investigated and tried before the Supreme Court, which issued a final death sentence, and the judiciary officially announced the execution of the sentence after completing all the required procedures. Mizan reported that Babak Shahbazi was convicted on charges of "waging war against God" and "corruption on earth," without specifying when he was arrested. It pointed out that the convicted person participated in the design and installation of industrial cooling systems for companies linked to military and security agencies and in the field of communications, explaining that this allowed him to "provide information to the (Israeli foreign intelligence service) Mossad in exchange for money and residence in a foreign country." Following the war that Israel began in June, Iran pledged to expedite judicial procedures to punish those cooperating with the Hebrew state. In recent months, the authorities have carried out executions against a number of people convicted of spying for Israel. In August, it announced the execution of a person who worked in the Iranian Atomic Energy Organization and was convicted of providing Israel with information about a nuclear scientist assassinated by the Hebrew state in the 12-day war this year. In late July, Iranian intelligence announced that it had arrested 20 people linked to the Mossad, including spies, agents, and support elements, in Tehran and other provinces of the Islamic Republic. According to non-governmental organizations, Iran is the country that carries out the largest number of executions in the world after China.
