Arab Sea_Reuters: The American "Axios" agency reported on Tuesday, citing Israeli officials, that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio informed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that President Donald Trump's administration supports the ground operation in the Gaza Strip, but wants it to be implemented quickly and completed as soon as possible. In later statements, a senior Israeli official stressed that Rubio did not call for stopping the operation in any way. "Axios" quoted a US official as saying: "The Trump administration will not stop Israel, and will allow it to make its own decision regarding the war in Gaza." He added: "It is not Trump's war, but Netanyahu's war, and he will bear responsibility for what happens next." The Israeli attack began hours after US Secretary of State Marco Rubio met with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and a number of senior government officials, at a time when Rubio was attending a celebration for a group of settlers in a tunnel near the Palestinian village of Silwan in East Jerusalem, a short distance from the Al-Aqsa Mosque. Trump had warned Hamas against using hostages as human "shields" in the Israeli attack on Gaza City. Trump wrote on the "Truth Social" platform on Monday: "I just read a news report that Hamas moved the hostages off the ground to use them as human shields against the Israeli ground attack. I hope Hamas leaders realize what they will face if they do such a thing." He added: "This is a human atrocity, rarely seen by anyone before. Don't let this happen, or all bets are off. Release all the hostages now!" Trump did not refer to the report in question. The Israeli army is preparing to expand its attack on Gaza City. On September 3, the army launched an operation called "Gideon's Chariots 2" to completely occupy Gaza City, which sparked protests in Israel, fearing for the lives of hostages and soldiers.
