Western countries launch "snapback" to reimpose UN sanctions on Iran Follow-ups - Arab Sea France, Germany, and the United Kingdom (known as the E3) announced today the launch of a mechanism called "snapback" to reimpose international sanctions on Iran due to its failure to comply with its obligations in the 2015 nuclear agreement (JCPOA) and its cessation of allowing full inspections by the International Atomic Energy Agency. These sanctions include freezing Iranian assets abroad, an arms embargo, and renewing restrictions on the ballistic missile program. The process grants Iran a 30-day deadline to avoid the implementation of sanctions if an agreement is reached. International Reactions Russia strongly condemned the move, considering it "illegal," while the United States welcomed it and considered it a catalyst for diplomacy. • Iran considered it an unjustified step and threatened to stop cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency.
