Arab Sea_Agencies: Iranian security forces killed 13 militants in operations carried out in the southeast of the country, state television reported on Wednesday. It indicated that they belong to a group suspected of involvement in a deadly attack on the police. The television quoted a statement by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard as saying, "So far, 13 terrorists have been killed and others arrested" in security operations in the cities of Iranshahr, Khash, and Saravan in Sistan and Baluchestan province, which borders Afghanistan and Pakistan. Earlier this month, 4 people were killed in southeastern Iran after an attempt to storm a police station in Sistan and Baluchestan province. Tasnim News Agency reported that "a policeman from Saravan was killed while terrorists were trying to enter the police station" in this area of Sistan and Baluchestan. According to the agency, the attackers belong to the Balochi Jaish al-Adl group, which is based in Pakistan and active in southeastern Iran. The agency reported the "killing of 3 terrorists and the arrest of two others." Sistan and Baluchestan province is located about 1,200 kilometers southeast of the capital Tehran and shares long borders with Pakistan and Afghanistan. The region witnesses frequent clashes between Iranian security forces, including the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, and insurgents from the Balochi minority and other groups, in addition to drug smugglers.
