Scientists have discovered that China's Three Gorges Dam, the largest in the world, has a slight impact on the Earth's balance and rotation. This massive dam is located in Hubei Province, central China, along the Yangtze River. It has a storage capacity of more than 40 billion tons of water and covers about 3% of China's electricity needs. A report by "Sustainability Times" stated that this huge amount of water can lengthen the day by 0.06 microseconds and cause a slight change in the shape of the Earth, making it more bulging at the equator and less flattened at the poles. A NASA report from 2005 also indicated that the dam could affect the Earth's rotation. Dr. Benjamin Fong Chao, from NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center, stated that simple actions, such as driving a car, can slightly affect the planet Earth. He added that the Three Gorges Dam, with its massive water reservoir, is a clear example of how human activities unintentionally affect the natural systems of our planet. This effect is similar to the impact of the 2004 Sumatra-Andaman earthquake in Indonesia, which measured about 9.3 on the Richter scale and caused the day to shorten by about 2.68 microseconds. According to "Sustainability Times," these changes seem minor, but they reveal how sensitive the Earth's balance is, as the gradual accumulation of human activities can lead to a significant impact on the Earth's rotation, climate, and planetary stability.
