127 Civilian Deaths: UN Reveals Israeli Violations in Lebanon
Arab Sea Newspaper - Follow-ups:
The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights announced on Tuesday that at least 127 civilians have been killed in attacks carried out by the Israeli army inside Lebanese territory since the ceasefire agreement nearly a year ago, calling for an immediate investigation and respect for the existing truce. The spokesperson for the Office, Thamin Al-Khaitan, said during a press conference in Geneva that the increasing Israeli attacks have led to "civilian casualties and the destruction of infrastructure and civilian targets, amid worrying indications of a possible expansion of military operations." He explained that the announced number is based on accurate documentation carried out by the Office, but he pointed out that "the real number of victims may be higher than that," given the difficulty of accessing all affected areas and collecting complete information. The Office called for respect for the rules of international humanitarian law, demanding that Israel stop targeting civilians, and stressed the need for all parties to adhere to the principles of the ceasefire agreement signed previously, to avoid the situation sliding towards a wider escalation.
